I was in Patna in the last week for one of the family functions. Lots of people were around. Lots of topics were discussed. Starting from family, to kids to profession to politics.
And if few Bihari discuss politics, it is not
possible to discuss caste without politics. And when it comes to caste, one
discussion that outshine is “Reservation”. This topic is discussed more in the
family who are not belonging to the privilege class and have never tasted the
magic of reservation.
One of the family members said that if Reservation
is that important for the specific group of people (irony is around 65%
population of India falls under this so-called specific group) and every
government is promoting it, irrespective of their party, why can’t this be seen
differently.
Now, this was opening a whole lot of imagination
among all around. He continued, “I think, we should make it mandatory for
people to use “reservation beneficiary” as suffix after their name to promote
why reservation is important and how it is bringing changes in the lives of
people getting benefitted with this. Be it a Doctor, an Engineer, an IAS
officer or any profession, where people used reservation for their upliftment. It
should be made mandatory for them to mention “Reservation Beneficiary” over
their name plate board. This is going to encourage more people to study and
could lead to an organic upliftment of the people who are suppressed since
ages.”
While we all knew what he was saying wasn’t what
he meant. It was a sarcasm par excellence. This could require some skill to
understand the intensity of sarcasm he meant out of this monologue.
But this has given a food for thought to many
who were part of that discussion. Almost everyone was having either a thought
or smile over their face hearing this.
Can this be tried? People who are progressing
using the reservation, should not feel offended mentioning that over their
board. If they can enjoy the success, there is no harm in mentioning the
reasons of success and sharing it with people.
