Change is Inevitable

Finally I reached Patna. My home town, rather my home. I remember my old days in Patna. That had never been the days that would let me felt proud of being in Patna. But now, that I am not staying here, I feel the importance of being in Patna.
As the train touched the soil of Bihar, I started feeling the closeness of being here. The beautiful sacred morning, the crop land spread across the oculus, people going across the farm to their work, thick fog looking like silver drape stretched across the land, the school going kids going in group, laughing together in jest. Oh how beautiful this place is!
I must have been the part of this beauty in my old days.

To know the present happenings of the state, I purchased two leading newspapers in the train. It was “Dainik Jagran” and “Hindustan”. Here I remembered my old days while reading these newspapers. To my great surprise, there was not even single news of crime on the front page of both the newspapers, which has been a routine thing during my old days. Not even in the city page of the newspaper, there were news of any monolithic crime. Three - four news had attracted my engrossment and had let me feel proud of today’s Patna.

The first news was of felicitating 28 students as “Bihar Gaurav” for their outstanding achievements in the studies. That included a girl who topped in NIFT entrance, a boy topped in state Medico Entrance Exam, UPSC top rankers etc. During my days, this kind of award had never been there to encourage us, though even those days of Bihar were producing toppers!

The second news was upon “Crop Sharing System” in Bihar. Here we have a tradition of hiring people for working in the crop land. They get a fair share of crop against their work. It was good to know that Bihar has approximately 92.5% peasants with less than 2 hectare land and only 0.1% big farmers with more than 10 hectare of lands. Isn’t this indicates that land reform has gone well in Bihar and that there is not much of the problem of social justice in that regards.

The third news was on live telecast of finale of some “Bhojpuri Realty Show” from “Gandhi Maidan” of Patna, on very first Bhojpuri Television Channel “Mahua”. I think this is the global face of Bihar and Bihari languages, that silently showing their presence and growing in the globe. Isn't it a way of nourishing language without taking any step of violence unlike some other states.

And the final news was upon massive traffic jam in Patna. The reason was slogan shoughters who had created a very bad traffic jam in the city. I think, the politics of Bihar still needs some more re-engineering kind of thing, though it had improved in a real good sense. Means, the politics of Bihar has now started talking about the development of Bihar rather than how to rule the state again by fooling around people. More young and educated people has started joining politics here that has improved the status of politics here.

The face of Bihar is changing. Changing in good sense. The roads of the city have improved. Security is not a major concern for a common Bihari, as they are having a faith that government is taking stern steps against the anti-social elements. More traffic police are exploited to control the city traffic. Job Fare is not unknown thing for a common Bihari as it is regularly being organised here. Patna has got IIT, IIM, AIIMS and National Law College kind of world class institutions. The young generation has started taking the new age career option and is doing well there also. The Bihar Government is encouraging people for their achievements and felicitating them for their sweet successes. As the thick cloud of infamy of the state is removed, the corporate world has realised that the state is full of sure-handed workers and to hire these people, they have to go to their place, rather than waiting for these people to come to them.

Oh my God. Is this the same Bihar which I left some 7 years back! Is that only 7 years which has brought a sea change in my Bihar! Am I really in Bihar!

Now I am really feeling proud of being a part of this great place, which I had not been 7 years back. But I am feeling only one anguish that probably I didn't have conduced anything in this positive change of Bihar... I wish I could...

The Blench Ghost

Since last week, I was not feeling good. I visited doctor for the dizziness I was feeling. He told me about the symptoms of Jaundice. Jaundice, a disease which I only have heard of. I never have raned into this disease nor my near and dear have. So, I am not much aware of the precautions or the cause about the disease.

The best part with our country is that everyone knows everything. Or atlease you will find some who will give you knowledge about anything. And this time definitely is not exception. A lot of suggestions have started flowing about the disease and the precautions that need to be taken care of. One thing that I came to know during this was, almost everyone have suffered from this disease in their life. And that, this disease need lot of precautions in diet and the life style. Also, if someone is underweight, the medications during this disease help them enhance their hunger and help them gain weight.

These were all general information which I got. But most important of all was, necromancy is the only treatment and exorcism is the only way of getting free from the disease. In that context, I have been told a lot of stories. Also, have got addresses of lot of people who are into the sorcery business and are good in treating jaundice with their hocus-pocus. Strange to know this. But they were so convincing that I was not left with any option but to trust them.

All these have sent me into a state of dilemma.
Where exactly should I go for the treatment of this Jaundice? Is our medical science not capable enough to treat such a normal disease? Is sorcery only way of treating jaundice? Are we really in the 21st century? Do we really have answer to every question or atleast have proper explanation for it?
I think, I need to talk to the doctor to get answer before going to any conjure man.
